Networking
To get the best out of your PCs you can connect them together. As well as gaining benefits from networking your PCs, you can start to use applications that will improve your staff's productivity and integrate communications with customers, suppliers and off-site staff. E-mails is a great business tool, giving you a superb ability to communicate with colleagues and all your contacts.
Step one is to connect the PCs. Once the PCs are "networked" the user of each PC can share information over the network, and data can be centralised or circulated as you wish. You can also use common software (computer programmes), which are available to all (or selected) users. There are two steps to Networking the PCs - 'wiring up' and 'setting up'.
-
Wiring Up
This stage physically connects the PCs together. Each PC needs a network card and a cable is run to a central point. The cables are connected together at a "hub" so that it's physically possible for every PC to "talk" to all other connected PCs. If you want to restrict access to parts of the network (for senior managers, or some other sensitive information), this can easily be set up.
-
Setting Up
With the physical network, in place each PC has to be set up or configured to enable access to the network. There's a choice in method of setting up your network - choosing the wrong one can prove to be overly expensive or inadequate for your business needs. At Colloquium, we allow for the expansion and increased functionality of your network, and are always mindful of ease of maintenance and budgets.
Networking costs vary according to your exact requirement and the physical difficulty in laying cables. Typical costs range from £50 to £150 per PC, supplied and installed.
Our experience covers all manner of operating systems including Apple, Linux, Novell, Unix, VMS, and of course Microsoft Windows along with their associated networking protocols. We can design and test a solution prior to installation so that there will be minimum disruption and no hidden extra costs. Once the network is in place we can provide remote management and support ensuring that it continues to add value to your business communications.
